Family Handbook

The Family Handbook describes the policies and procedures of the App State CDC. This document is essential to understanding the responsibilities, relationships and expectations of the Center and families. Please read it carefully and refer back to it periodically during the year. View the Family Handbook.

Sick Policy

Children under 24 months must wait at least 12 hours after immunization before returning to school, as reactions—though rare—require careful one-on-one observation. If a child’s needs exceed the capabilities of group care, they will be taken to the Director’s Office, and parents must arrange pickup within an hour. Children showing symptoms of contagious illness or exposed to contagious diseases should not attend, and depending on the illness, a doctor’s note may be required for their return. Parents should notify the Center of illness-related absences, and children must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication and symptom-free for 24 hours after diarrhea or vomiting before coming back to school. You can view our complete Sick Policy within our Family Handbook.

Inclement Weather Policy

When the University announces emergency closings because of inclement weather, the Child Development Center will also close. Announcements concerning closings campus wide will be sent to families via the App State email system. The CDC will open thirty minutes prior to campus during delays and/or close thirty minutes after University early closings. Being open before the University opens or closing later than the University closes is a courtesy to families. Please understand that our goal is to ensure the safe arrival and departure of families traveling with children, as well as safe travel for our staff.
